~White willow is native to Europe, Central Asia, and North Africa. It has been used since ancient times for it's ability to decrease pain. The bark contains salicylic acid which is a precursor to aspirin, whereas aspirin is a synthetic drug made from salicylic acid. As an isolate, asprin has detrimental side effects, but salicylic acid does not and still possesses anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.
Other uses of white willow bark is that it is used to reduce fevers, to thin the blood, and for skin related issues.
~Ginger is native to Southeast Asia, and has an ancient history of use in treating in Chinese, Ayurvedic, and African folk medicine traditions to treat pain related to rheumatism, arthritis, and musculature. Ginger modulates inflammatory pathways, and suppressing pro-inflammatory cytokines in clincal studies. Ginger also is best known for soothing gastrointestinal issues including naseau, and is a strong antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral. Ginger promotes cellular detoxification and promotes improved kidney health. It cleanses the body by stimulating digestion, circulation, and sweating thereby removing the build up of waste material from the liver, colon, and other organs.
~Meadowsweet is native to Europe, Western Asia and Eastern North America. Traditionally used for it's pain relieving properties specifically in joints, and fever reduction. Rich in salicylic acid, similar to white willow bark, meadowsweet is both analgesic and anti-inflammatory. Additionally meadowsweet is supportive of digestive health such as indigestion and reduces acidity, helps to breakup uric acid which contributes to gout, is a diuretic, and used in respiratory ailments such as colds and possess antibacterial agents.
~Feverfew is native to parts of Eurasia, the Balkan Peninsula, Anatolia, and the Caucasus mountains. In ancient Greece it was employed in any condition where inflammation was present, and in European folk traditions it was considered a tonic herb for general health as well as was a popular remedy for menstrual disorders. Many other traditions used feverfew to reduce fevers. It is presently a very important herb for pain and specifically for headaches and migraines. Feverfew has antibacterial, antifungal actions, uses to treat colds and flu, indigestion, difficulty breathing, and applied externally for insect bites or skin wounds.
Feverfew is believed to impact certain neurotransmitters (serotonin, dopamine, GABA, and histamine). It is generally advised not to take large doses over long periods and suddenly cease intake. Another known contraindication that feverfew is a uterine stimulant and should never be taken while pregnant.
~Chamomile is native to Europe and Western Asia and used in folk medicine as a relaxant and for digestion support. Medicinally chamomile is soothing to a tense nervous system. It is often used for irritability, hypersensitiveness, nervousness, sleep troubles, stress, and mood disorders. It has mild pain relieving properties due to it's anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxing action. Additionally chamomile has antihistamine properties and is useful for food allergies and helps intestinal bloating, is antispasmodic, antimicrobial, respiratory tract supportive, as well as healing for the skin issues or wounds.
~Turmeric is native to India and Southeast Asia. In Ayurvedic medicine Tumeric has been used for centuries to address joint pain, digestive issues, to support the liver, and as a blood purifier. Turmeric has been shown in clinical applications to inactive inflammatory enzymes, reducing the production of inflammatory cytokines. This allows the body to heal and lessens pain. Tulsi is an anti-inflammatory and used to mitigate mild pain, as well as an adaptogen which helps the body regulate to stressors and builds resiliency. It is often used in nervous system support, to promote relaxation, and uplifting mood.
Tulsi is immunomodulatory, antihistamine, antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral, and antiprotozoal activity. It is neuroprotective and may help in protecting against neurodegenerative disorders, poor memory, or head trauma. It acts as a digestive aid for bloating, gas, better absorption of nutients, stimulates digestive enzymes, and cleanses waste. It also aids in fat assimilation and is supportive of the liver, and has an affinity for the lungs which helps to clear sinus congestion.
~Skullcap is native to North America, Europe, Asia, and Canada. Used by Native Americans as a nervous system tonic, kidney problems, and women's health. It is a relaxing sedative calming an overactive mind or mental tension, anxiety, addiction recovery, and as a sleep aid. Additonally skullcap has powerful anti-inflammatory properties and can be helpful for muscle pain and spasms.
