Fire Cider was created by famous herbalist Rosemary Gladstar in the 1970s, although there are many variations of the recipe. Fire Cider is a vinegar oxymel which incorporates raw apple cider vinegar, raw local honey, and various food-herb ingredients. Oxymels are one of the most ancient forms of extraction and preservation methods of medicine making dating back to Mesopotamia.
~Raw apple cider vinegar provides detoxifying properties, live enzymes, friendly bacteria, cardiovascular and blood sugar balancing properties. Raw honey balances the acidity of the vinegar as a natural sweetening agent, as well as adding minerals, antioxidants, and antibacterial agents.
~This version of Fire Cider is made with a base of oranges and lemons for their nutritional benefits, detoxifying and immune supportive properties, and taste. Food-herb ingredients such as garlic, ginger, rosemary, horseradish, cayenne, and clove are also incorporated for their effectiveness in reducing inflammation, balancing blood sugar, increasing cognitive function, supporting healthy detoxification, aiding in digestion, improving circulation and cardiovascular support. Additonally these food herbs all have antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal properties making this formula a perfect remedy for cold, flus, coughs, and boosting the immune system. Fire Cider can be used on a daily basis as a general tonic, or used for specific indications or health imbalances. Also this recipe is great to cook with and can be included in salads, soups, or on steamed greens.
