The Digestive Formula supports and seeks to improve overall digestive function. Incorporating various herbal ingredients that have an affinity for the entire digestive tract including the liver, and gallbladder. Many of these herbs are anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, cleansing, tonifying, rebuilding to the mucosal tissues, and helpful in fat absorption.
~Peppermint is native to Asia, Europe, North America, South Africa, and Australia. It has a long recorded use in folk traditions and has been one of the most commonly used medicinal herbs throughout history. It was a purification herb used to treat colds, coughs and fevers by Native Americans, and was also used in rituals for protection and abundance. Peppermint is a powerful anti-spasmodic, and calms the action of the muscles in your digestive tract allowing gas to pass more easily. It also encourages bile release which aids in breaking down fats more quickly. It contains antimicrobial, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties. The essential oil in mint is anodyne and helps relieve pain.
~Fennel is native to the Mediterranean region and spread to many areas in the world including ancient Mesopotamia, India, Egypt, Greece, and Europe. It was believed to have magical and medicinal properties. One of it's main medical uses is as a digestive aid including reducing digestive cramping, gas, and bloating. It encourages motility and peristalsis, anti-nauseant properties, stimulates bile flow, reduces pain associated with digestion, and possesses anti-inflammatory and anti-acidic properties.
~Dandelion is native to Europe, Asia, India and Russia. The root was documented for centuries in the works of the Arabian physicians, and Chinese medicine. The Greek name for dandelion “Taraxos achos” means “disorder remedy”. Dandelion is a strong bitter and chiefly used in digestion support as it heals, nourishes, and balances the entire digestive tract. It soothes gas and bloating, relieves heartburn, upset stomach, nausea, acts as a mild laxative, is anti-inflammatory, supports friendly bacteria in the gut. Dandelion also supports gallbladder, kidney and liver function, and increases bile and pancreatic enzymes. It heals and supports the mucous membrance cells lining the gastrointestinal tract, and stimulates the appetite.
~Thyme is native to Africa, Asia, Europe and the Mediterranean, and has been used for thousands of years medicinally and spiritually as a healer and protector. Thyme was a potent antimicrobial and antiseptic and in ancient Greece and was burned as incense to clear the air of diseases. For gastrointestinal health thyme supports the removal of excess gasses, helps increase peristaltic movement in the stomach, has antispasmodic action, and relieves intestinal cramping and bloating.
~Burdock root is native to Europe and Asia, and has been used historically in Japan and India as well as First Nations people such as the Cherokee and Iroquois for a variety of ailments. As burdock root pertains to digestive health, it gently helps stimulate bile production in the liver and the digestion of fats through the small intestine, and is very nutrient dense. Burdock has a long history of use as a blood purifier. It is one of the most important plants to eliminate toxins from the body, as well as acting as a healing agent. It's herbal actions are oily, bitter, and warming and is good for stagnation in gut, liver, gallbladder, lymph, extra cellular fluid, kidney and skin.
~Mugwort is native to Europe, Asia, and North Africa and used in folk practices for it's spiritual and medicinal properties. In Germanic traditions it was seen as the "Mother of Herbs", and in various other traditions was used to enhance dreams and ward off evil. Mugwort is very bitter and supportive to the entire digestive tract helping to expel gas, reduce bloating and indigestion, poor nutrient absorption, and expels intestinal parasites. It is supportive to the spleen, liver, and kidneys, and nervous system helping to promote relaxation. Additionally, mugwort is anti-inflammatory and analgesic thereby reducing pain.
~Ginger is native to Southeast Asia, and has been used for over 2000 years in Chinese, Ayurvedic, Arabic, and African folk medicine traditions for gastrointestinal issues, immunity, and pain. For digestion ginger helps with bloating, gas, diarrhea, and nausea. It also helps boost motility of the intestinal tract, is liver and kidney protective, and is a strong antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral. Ginger also modulates inflammatory pathways and promotes cellular detoxification. It cleanses the body by stimulating digestion, circulation, and sweating thereby removing the build up of waste material from the liver, colon, and other organs.
~Oranges are native to Southeast Asia and have a long history medicinally. Orange peel is bitter which triggers the release of saliva and signals your stomach, liver, and other digestive organs to ready the body for food. Orange peels help to address gastrointestinal problems such as diarrhea, heartburn, over-acidity, or inflammation. Additonally, in Chinese Medicine orange peel is used to address coughs, colds, and other respiratory ailments.
